Highlighting Virtual Resources!

Giant Steps students, participants, and staff are officially three weeks into the swing of things after the winter break concluded.  Staff have enjoyed seeing participants and students in the building as well as through the zoom session!

Students participate in a session with their staff.

One of the things that typically happens during the “spring semester” (or quarters 3 & 4) at the Day School are visits organized by the Secondary/Transition Social Work department to different Adult Day Programs in the surrounding communities.  This gives families a chance to learn about Post-22 options for our students.  Our social work department had to cancel many scheduled visits from last spring due to the pandemic, but they have worked to bring these back this year.  Many of these programs have gone back and forth with in person and remote programming. The Giant Steps Social Workers, in collaboration with the P.R.E.P. (Prospective Resources and Education for Planning) Committee, have organized a series of virtual visits with many of the organizations in the surrounding communities who provide programming for adults with disabilities after they exit the school system.

In addition to the virtual visit series, our adult planning task force has set up some training in regards to resources available for our families to begin exploring and/or applying for support for their child as they age out of the school system.

The visits and training series, hosted by the PREP Committee, will all take place via Zoom.  We invite our families, staff, and community members to attend!  Email prep.committee@mygiantsteps.org for the zoom link!
