GS CARES; Guest Blogger – Angelina Strum

Hello, Giant Steps families, employees, and community partners!

My name is Angelina Strum, Director of Special Education for the Day School, and I am the guest blogger this week. I am excited to share with you how we are continuing to use our Day School Mission/Vision and Organizational Core Values as the foundation for moving into the new school/program year as a unified TEAM that remains student/participant centered.

As we continue to move through unprecedented times we are excited to start the 20-21 school year at Giant Steps!  Giant Steps Day School is dedicated to ensuring that all instruction, either in-person or remote, will be relevant and meaningful. All students deserve to be challenged and engaged in learning each day, in a safe, supportive environment.  This school year, regardless of which learning model is being implemented, all students will receive learning opportunities every day that align with the Giant Steps Day School curriculum and their IEP goals.

Now, more than ever, it is also important for our organization to continue to move forward with purposeful reflection on the values that are instilled in every employee. The Giant Steps Team continues to remain passionate, dedicated, and have a strong understanding of what is at stake for our students/participants every day. Over the last few months, we have grown and developed new standards of learning in the area of remote instruction despite the many challenges we have faced with COVID-19 and a global pandemic.  We remain committed to our Day School Mission/Vision statements supported by Giant Steps’ Core Values that give language to the unifying purpose for why we are all here at Giant Steps and solidify our guiding coalition!
