Giant Steps Hosts Book Fair

Giant Steps’ students enjoyed having the opportunity to visit the Scholastic Book Fair that took place this past week. Students visited during a set time period to look at the many books that the Scholastic Book Fair offers. Students also had the opportunity to invite a “special person” as they have in years past. Students and their “special person” were able to shop at the book fair, enjoy a snack and then complete a craft activity donated by our Giant Steps’ Parent Club!

This year, the Book Fair was coordinated by two parent volunteers, Joan Kobs and Rorre Hafner. We highlighted our Giant Steps’ Library in March!  Joan and Rorre have dedicated their time to ensure that the Giant Steps’ Library is maintained and continue to work on finding ways to grow our library as it relies 100% on donations and fundraisers, such as the Scholastic Book Fair. We are so thankful for Joan and Rorre who continue to support our Library!

Purchases made from the Giant Steps’ Book Fair help grow our literature selection in the library! Giant Steps’ families, friends, students and staff were able to purchase books in person and online!

The “All for Books” program also took place last week during the Book Fair. This program allowed for classes to collect funds for the “All for Books” program. By donating and collecting $1 or any loose change in a baggie, the funds helped to purchase books for classroom libraries, which then allowed for more children to have access to books. This is an awesome program because it helps to encourage kids to read and read MORE!

The “All for Books” money goes beyond Giant Steps. So in turn, we not only helped our own students, but we had the opportunity to raise money and help give back to help others too! Scholastic Book Fairs matches monetary donations with a donation of up to $1 million in books from The Scholastic Possible Fund, which distributes books to children in need.

Giant Steps added several new titles, two of which are very popular ones, the newest title from the “Wimpy Kid” series and the newest from the “Dog Man” series.

If you would like to donate any books to the Giant Steps’ Library, please contact library@mygiantsteps.org or you can also drop them off at Giant Steps! Thank you so much!
